Aug. 29th, 2010 03:06 pm❧ The Great Pain-In-The-Ass Repainting is still in full swing, everything that needed to be taken down has been taken down and lots of dust has been moved around as a result. Now I'm sitting in my (rather empty) room staring at six gaping holes in the wall where some of my shelves used to be. One of the holes has several smaller gashes next to it, where my dad tried to fix a shelf that was leaning to one side. He never quite managed - one of the reasons I jumped at the suggestion to get a new bookshelf after the repainting is over. That'd be the third bookshelf in my room, and should hopefully solve my space problems for the next couple of years - that is to say, until I finish uni and move away. I have no clue what I'll do with my all books when that time comes.
❧ Side problem: this afternoon I'm going to watch Shrek 4 and then eat at McDonald's. Which means I'll have almost no time to finish the fic and picspam that I need to finish by tomorrow. I don't even especially want to watch that film since Shrek 3 was barely funny, but I'm kind of desperate since I haven't been to the cinema all summer.Curse you Inception, being delayed for months. The only pro is I get popcorns and McChicken out of this, and I love junk food once in a while.
❧ I played the newest Choice of Games arrival, Choice of Vampire - I've got mixed feelings about the game, it does a good job on the world-building but the characters feel rather flat. Also I think I missed many interesting subplots, but I'll need a second playthrough to see where other choices lead. The game ends rather abruptly too, with a "to be continued". I just wonder how they'll carry over all of the stats.
All in all, my favourite game of the bunch is still Choice of Broadsides. I managed to make it to Admiral on my second playthrough by following the simple strategy of "what would Will Lawrence do here?" and it worked like a charm. And I managed to pursue an illicit gay relationship with theFrench Gaul rival. What else could I ask for?

❧ I swear, I'm the laziest person ever. How can I even finish all of my exams like this? fffffffIhatehatehateuni
So what I'm going to do? Rec online games to you, of course! There are a couple of flash games that came out last week and are absolutely adorable.
❧ First is Grow Valley, part of the uber-adorable Grow series. Gameplay is very simple, just click on the icons at the bottom of the screen and watch the cute little guys hop around the valley and try to build a city. The aim of the game is to max out all buildings and it's just a matter of figuring out which order you have to click the icons in. I'd say give it a try even if you're not into flash games, it's very short and the animations are cute and there two possible endings, the regular one and a "bonus" one. (The link goes to the JIG review and also contains links to all the games in the series. My favourites are Cube, Island and Valley.)
❧ Submachine: 32 Chambers is the next instalment in the Submachine series of point-and-click games, but it doesn't tie in to the main storyline. It's a spin-off, so it's much shorter than the other Submachine games, but that's not necessarily bad.Submachine 2 has got this huge-ass labyrinth and a hundred rooms, takes the best part of an afternoon to solve. Me and my sister have been fans of these for years and we positively squeed when we saw this. The graphics are good, the puzzles make sense, but we had to resort to a guide to find the last small stupid item we needed. (Again, linking to the JIG review with the full list of Submachine games.)
❧ And now for something different, Choice of Games. There are 3 games so far, plus some user-submitted ones, all playing like Choose Your Own adventures. (I'm an old fan of the Lone Wolf series.) So far I've only tried Romance and Dragon - they're fairly long games, mostly because they're completely text-based and there's a lot to read for each scene - but they're both fun games, though very different one from the other. For example, in Choice of Romance, you're a young noblewoman (or nobleman) spending the season at court. The good part about the games are that the characters are completely customizable, you get to pick their eye colour, their personality, everything. Something that I liked particularly about Romance was that you got to pick whether your character was male or female and whether they were looking for a male or female suitor. Okay, the game isn't perfect, you can't play a bi character (suitors are either all male or all female) and the change is purely cosmetic, but after years of playing a male protagonist rescuing damsels in distress this is definitely a step in the right direction.
The games have several different endings, depending on your choices.
❧ Now excuse me, I'm going to play Broadsides because apparently it's the best in the series and I have no idea why I've kept it for last.Any more game recs?
❧ ETA; I think my dad got hooked on the Grow games, last I saw him he was taking notes about the order of the buttons. It's either kinda sad or kinda awesome. Anyway I figured it out more quickly. Well, me and my siblings did. It was a joint effort. With me being the brains of the group, of course.
❧ ETA2; I still have to wake up at arse o'clock tomorrow because of lessons. It's the third time this week and it's just Wednesday. The only thing holding me together is thinking that it's the last week. Keep calm. Get some sleep. Don't throttle anyone.
❧ ETA3; Castiel is, in fact, awesome.
