Getting to know mai frands!
Sep. 10th, 2011 10:25 pmSo I copied here my answers, feel free to post your own survey in the comments. You can delete the parts you don't feel like answering, I left out some too because I didn't have anything interesting to say. :3
BASICS
Name: Ren
Age: 23
Birthday: March 27th, 1988
Location: Italy
Gender and/or sex: female
Sexual orientation: 90% straight, I like boys but I've had my fair share of girl crushes
Political leanings: tough... I guess you'd identify me as a liberal, but here the liberals are split into various parties, none of which I particularly like; the big split is between right and left parties; my beliefs are firmly left wing (or even extreme left on some topics) but right now left parties have little hope of winning any elections so I vote centre right; I voted for the Democratic Party at the last elections, they're social democrats, though really my main concern is that they're the only opposition to Berlusconi
Occupation: student, about to start a Master's degree in mathematics
Religious/spiritual beliefs (or if there's a lack thereof?): atheist
Heritage/ancestry: all Italian, though my ancestors all come from different parts of the boot! :) I don't have the stereotypical Italian look though, I'm blonde and pale, so far I've been mistaken for Irish and Danish, haha.
FAVOURITES
Bands/musicians: Lady Gaga! Also lately I've been listening to a lot of P!nk, Sara Bareilles, and A Fine Frenzy
Books:
TV shows/movies: Doctor Who, Merlin, Sherlock, Glee, SPN, Suits, Vampire Diaries, click here for the rest
Characters: the Doctor (any incarnation, please don't make me choose, but currently Eleven because I have a soft spot for whoever I'm watching rn), Amy & Rory, Rose Tyler, Ianto from Torchwood, Kurt, Rachel, Brittany, Tina & Mike from Glee, everyone but Gwen from Merlin, Dean & Cas from SPN, Damon & Caroline from Vampire Diaries, Harvey from Suits, Arthur from Inception, McGonagall, Luna Lovegood, Fred & George...
Philosophers/poets/artists/authors/scientists/historical figures/etc.: I used to have a fondness for the lake poets, and also for Foscolo among Italian poets, but since I graduated high school I didn't get to read a lot of poetry. I like impressionists, my all time favourite painter is Monet, though I also like romanticism. Also I fangirl Gauss and other mathematicians.
Livejournal communities:
HOBBIES/LIFESTYLE
Do you write?: yup, oodles of fanfic and the occasional original story
Are you an artist?: nope; I doodle and make fugly graphics, but that's it
Do you play any instruments?: I used to play the clarinet in a marching band in middle school, haven't touched it in years
Do you do any sports/physical activities?: eww no, if you look up "couch potato" in the dictionary you won't find a picture of me because I was too lazy to pose for it
Do you drink?: occasionally, but I'm a lightweight so I have to be careful I don't barf all over the place or make a fool of myself after just a couple of beers
Do you smoke?: nope
Are you a vegetarian/vegan?: nope, I like meat~
Which languages do you know?: English and Italian; I can understand a bit of French, Spanish and Japanese
Do you like computer stuff/graphics/coding?: I love it!
Do you attend concerts? + Last band(s) you saw: nope
What are you passionate about?: freedom of thought and speech, equal rights for everyone, more funds for research and schooling and health care, ALSO FANDOM BECAUSE IT'S SRS BSNS!
Where do you want to travel?: Everywhere! I'd love to visit more of England and Ireland and I've always dreamed of going to Japan, but I'd like to be anywhere I haven't been yet. (Though I'd prefer civilization to the wilderness.)
Where have you already been?: I've been around Europe a bit. I've seen Greece, France, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Czech Republic and Norway.
What have you studied?/What do you enjoy learning about?: As I said, math graduate. In high school I loved English (easy A for me) and Science, especially chemistry. Now I'm just studying different kinds of mathematics... My favourites are numerical analysis (I did my thesis on that) and probability. I also took a course on the fundamentals of mathematics which was very interesting, we studied how euclidean geometry developed and how numbers are defined and generally how maths works.
Accomplishments?: The aforementioned degree, I guess. Also in high school I was a mathlete. It probably sounds lame but I went to Nationals for four years straight and it was basically a three-day paid holiday to the seaside~
Goals?: Get my Master's degree in two years and finding a job abroad.
Anything else you'd like to share.: lol aren't you tired of me rambling yet?
ETCETERA
Recommend a song/TV show/book/anything like that.: The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch. I try to get everyone to read this book because it's just so good. It's not your typical sword-and-sorcery fantasy, there's swords and there's sorcery but it's also grim and gritty and the characters are delightful. It's a series, but there's only two books out rn and the first one reads well as a standalone too - even more so than the second which has a bit of a cliffhanger at the end.
Do you expect your LJ friends to comment regularly?: Nope, I know I'm not the most regular of commenters either and I'd never insist for them to comment on my journal either, though it's nice when I get comments.
Links to your other blogs/tumblr/etc.: furthermoreover.tumblr.com
What is your AIM screenname?: lunaticpapaya
I feel much better now that I dropped one big bang, and after the change of plot the SPN one is going way more smoothly too. I just have to stop procrastinating and get some writing done. :| Sadly it's all in Italian and it's a crossover so I have little to no hope of finding a beta who will trudge through the 10k for me, it's though to switch back to Italian after years of writing everything in English.
