Comic rant
Jan. 20th, 2011 05:04 pmMy newest thread on
fanficrants has more replies than anything I ever wrote. Also I pissed off more people today than during the debate about crucifixes. The subject? Comic sans.
LAYDEEZ, COME AND HUG ME! I'VE BEEN CALLED MEAN BY PEOPLE OVER THE INTERNET AND WON'T BE ABLE TO SLEEP TONIGHT!
Oh yeah, the original point of this post was that Chris and Darren are going to be on the cover of EW and I can't wait for scans, but in the meantime this is keeping me pretty amused.

Date: 2011-01-20 04:41 pm (UTC)Random point: Comic sans in the axes of a figure of an article in Science! *cringe* If I was one of the reviewers, I would have made them fix that on principle.
*HUG*

Date: 2011-01-20 05:22 pm (UTC)Urgh, that comment! I think it made me lose all respect for Science, ever.
*hugs back*

Date: 2011-01-20 05:33 pm (UTC)Science tries to be a little too much like Popular Science sometimes, a little more like a magazine and less like a journal.

Comic sans. A font I once liked but not anymore and certainly not anywhere outside a comic.

Date: 2011-01-20 05:24 pm (UTC)I used to like comic sans when I was, like, 10. Now, eh, not so much. I've found Anime Ace or Hand of Sean and they are much nicer handwritten fonts for comics.

Was that seriously a dark fic? How can they not choose something more neutral? *headdesk*

Date: 2011-01-21 06:11 pm (UTC)I didn't read it because the font was burning my eyes but it seemed like a serious fic, not a crackfic or stuff like that. What's wrong with arial or times new roman? D=

Date: 2011-01-20 04:57 pm (UTC)Chris and Darren FTW, though! I hope they're making out (I realise this is unlikely, but until we get pics, you can't make me believe it didn't happen).

Date: 2011-01-20 05:27 pm (UTC)This was more or less what I wanted to post in the beginning. For all the grief other commenters have been giving me, I might as well have gone with it.
Hey, you can always pretend it happened backstage! I bet someone's already working on a fic about it. Also they're hugging and grinning and positively adorable. I could die from that alone.

ETA: Comics Sans is an inside joke for all my batch mates in my high school because we used to have a history teacher who used that font in all her powerpoint presentations. We were in Freshmen. And like, I was literally ready to vomit all over that font. I swear, I cringe when I see people still use it. WORST. FONT. EVER. Idc if I'm shallow. At least I have good aesthetic taste.

Date: 2011-01-20 10:12 pm (UTC)Haha same here bb. A couple of people told me I'm a pretentious snob for hating on a font. If the alternative is gouging out my eyes over the comic sans, I think I can live with it. Why do people even use that thing for school/work stuff is beyond me.

Date: 2011-01-20 10:24 pm (UTC)In other news, I have been known to hit the 'back' button on fics written in comic sans because (although I know it's somewhat unfair), it gives me the immediate impression that the writer is new to writing and the fic quality won't be as good. I know it's not true at all (some people - even really great fic writers - just like the font on their journal), but I get "this person is one of those 12 year olds who just discovered fandom and is going to be all over the place with their writing/characterization" vibes.

Date: 2011-01-20 10:28 pm (UTC)Yeah, same. How can I take them seriously when they use a kids font? Might be judgemental but it worked too often in the past. Give me Times New Roman or Arial any day.

Date: 2011-01-20 10:30 pm (UTC)I'm a Verdana girl myself. Not sure why. But Arial's a close second.
