Merlin 3x04

Last night was... urrgh. On the plus side I kept my promise of one drink only (almost) and didn't get drunk. On the minus side I didn't get drunk so I was actually awake all evening. Night. Whatever. Went to bed at 3am. The company wasn't bad but I knew only about 3 people out of 20, and they all knew each other really well, so I had lots of moments when I just stood around wondering what the hell I was doing there.
The one good thing that came out of the evening is that after 22 years I finally have a handbag. Like, a proper one where I can put my keys, wallet, phone and everything else. Because apparently social conventions say that if you're a girl you just can't stuff it in your jeans and jacket pockets. I still kind of fail at going shopping, because going shopping for me is something like... What do I need? Handbag, maybe a new shirt. Which shop? Locate closest likely shop. Enter shop. Find item #1. Buy item #1. Rinse and repeat for item #2. Be home in time for tea.
I seriously don't know how people manage to spend a whole afternoon going from shop to shop. Maybe if I went with someone who had the same taste in clothes as me. But that's unlikely, last time I was in a shop with a friend I commented on how ridiculous one of the dresses on display looked, and it turned out that she owned a dress just like that. Yay, foot in my mouth and all that.
On the other hand I can get completely lost in a good bookstore.
Now on to fannish things and squee and not-so-squee. First things first, I just found out about Colin & Bradley's Quest which confirms my opinion that the boys are adorable, funny and slightly mental.Lemurs and Ye Olde English and did Bradley just say "Captain Wow"?
Merlin 3x03
❧ I forgot to blog when I watched Merlin 3x03 - good episode, not much in the way of a plot but it was funny and Richard Wilson as the goblin was priceless. The scene when Merlin and Gwen had to give Gaius the antidote in time smacked of deja-vu, though.
❧ Arthur was awfully cold to Merlin - again - but I liked how he trusted Merlin and questioned goblin!Gaius. I would have hated to see him arrest Merlin without even defending him in front of Uther. Also, his donkey ears! His donkey ears!
Merlin 3x04
❧ GWAINE! Oh my gods, Gwaine. Just. Gwaine.
❧ He's all kinds of awesome. And I'm not biased just because of the sheer amount of shirtless scenes he had. He's badass, and he's funny. He's kind of like Lancelot, only maybe with acting skills, and his scenes with Gwen didn't have me wanting to bang my head on the wall.
❧ At this point in S1 and S2 we had the Lancelot episode, so I'd dub Gwaine Lancelot v.2 except I'm already calling him Mr. Fanservice. Not to mention that I'm more used to seeing the name spelling Gawain, so expect me to make the mistake often some time in the future.
❧ Because there will be fic, I'd stake my head on it. He's prettier than Lancelot, he gets more characterization than Sir Leon, I give it 24 hours at most before the fic starts coming in. He woke up shirtless in Merlin's bed and his first question was "What am I doing in this bed?" - this is more than just a bit slashable.
❧ "Oh noes, he hurt his leg! Quick, take his shirt off!"
...is what passes as sound medical knowledge. Better than applying bandages over clothes, I suppose.
❧ Well, other stuff happened apart fromGawain Gwaine. Arthur was awesome, standing up for him like he did and I loved how he said "four dozen pickled eggs?" (or something like that). Plus the scene between him and Merlin at the end is adorable. I think I can bear with Arthur being obnoxious with Merlin if Merlin talks back.
❧ And the innkeeper calling Merlin handsome... I always liked Colin better than Bradley anywaythough
teamarthur is swaying me lately., it's great to finally have someone recognize this in-show. Plus Arthur and Merlin going for a pint together - priceless! They're totally BFFs.
❧ Bad things... well, there's always something. Uther is a git like always. Morgana resumes the trend of disappearing from all episodes that aren't centred on her. The plot of someone using magical weapons to kill Arthur has been used half a dozen times already (and honestly, you'd imagine sellers would be genre savvy enough not to turn their back to shady customers).
❧ Also the melee scene sucked, most times I was having troubles figuring out who was who. Part of me wishes they'd given them all coloured surcoats, and historical accuracy be damned. This is Merlin anyway, they threw tomatoes at the bad guy earlier so who cares about accuracy. I just want to understand who's whacking who with a sword.
❧ But I think the good more than compensates for the bad and having Gwen acting friendly with Gwaine instead of falling into his arms at first glance was priceless. That's the Gwen from S1 that I loved!
❧ Also, wishing Gwaine had stayed. I didn't read any spoilers so I don't know if he makes another appearance in S3 but the blooper scene with him falling off the wall makes me hope so. I wish at the end of the last season we'll get Lance, Gwaine, Leon and everybody else together as knights of the round table. That'd be beyond cool, having knights who actually don't get killed off by the dozen.
Bleh, I should have made my own tea. My brother has a distressing tendency to leave the water lukewarm, or only fill the mug halfway, or leave the teabag in for too long, or all of these.
I do make tea, usually, but today I got distracted by pretty boys.
Now I'd watch the next ep of SPN since last night I couldn't, but I don't have time because... I'm finally off to watch Inception! It finally premiered here last week. What the fuck Italy, why do you have to be so backwards even with film release dates?
Hope it's as good as everyone makes it sound. Expect more squee later in the day.
