Top 5 SPN episodes
Sep. 30th, 2010 01:26 pmOverall my favourite episodes are those in which there's some kind of investigation, the brothers disguise as FBI agents, bicker, keep the angst to a minimum and possibly Castiel shows up. And I prefer new monsters to angels and demons.
I actually counted how many times the different kinds of monsters appear in each series and the results were interesting:
| Monster | S1 | S2 | S3 | S4 | S5 | Total |
| Vengeful Spirit | 7 | 7 | 3 | 4 | 1 | 22 |
| Other Monsters | 11 | 11 | 9 | 7 | 7 | 46 |
| Demons | 4 | 4 | 5 | 9 | 3 | 25 |
| Angels | . | . | . | 4 | 5 | 9 |
| Lucifer * | . | . | . | . | 9 | 9 |
* Lucifer includes all other Apocalypse-related beings.
It was definitely better with more random monster and less demonic conspiracies. Anyway, onwards to the Top 5!
One: 2x15 Tall Tales
The first appearance of the Trickster, Sam and Dean being unreliable narrators, Bobby shows up and is generally awesome... This episode had me laughing so much, my siblings threatened me for being a noisy disturbance. It just has too many hilarious moments.
Two: 5x03 Free To Be You And Me
Castiel in this episode! Just... Castiel in this episode! The talk about personal space, trying to pass Cas as a FBI agent, the visit to the den of iniquity, the "today you're my little bitch" line. And at the end, when Dean said he had more fun with Castiel in the last 24 hours that he had with Sam in years, well, it's too true! There was too much angst and no funny moments for almost all of S3 and S4, and I missed it.
Three: 4x18 The Monster At The End Of This Book
The Prophet Chuck. The Winchester Gospel. Making slash canon while poking fun at wincest. Plot-wise, eh, it's something or else about the Apocalypse, but the scene where Dean actually prays and Castiel pops up and instead of being a dick actually tells Dean how to stop Sam... guh!
Four: 5x08 Changing Channels
I was sorely tempted to just list "everything with the Trickster" as my top 5. Instead I just picked two out of four, and it wasn't an easy choice. I loved this episode because, well, the Trickster is awesome as always but we also finally find out he's Gabriel.
And then there's all the TV show spoofs, including the Japanese game show. Poor, poor boys.
Five: 1x17 Hell House
Ghostfacers! I love the Ghostfacers ♥ (though the Winchester douche-nozzles don't share the feeling)
Plus there's the prank war that Sam was totally winning. And the changing spirit.
So in the end even though I didn't like S5 much I liked many episodes individually... I also liked 5x09 The Real Ghostbusters (in-show SPN convention? with cosplayers? awesomesauce!).
For the more serious episodes, there's 5x10 Abandon All Hope (though it was a real punch to the gut to watch and I still haven't given up on Jo and Ellen), 2x17 Heart (werewolves!) and 1x01 Pilot (because, y'know, start of everything and all).

Date: 2010-09-30 11:48 am (UTC)I actually can't think of my favourite. It might be a cross between Monster at the End of this book, Tall Tales and the S4 premier. I just love Castiel's entrance. Best ever.
